The Essay Consultation Process

I offer unlimited hours for essay consultation and draft edits, as I truly want the student to create essays so strong they could not be improved by a single word. I push my students to write unique pieces no-one else could have written, and every student who works with me leaves with essays they love!

I do not filter my client list based on test scores, GPAs, or profiles. Many counselors reject clients who they feel might not be admitted to highly selective schools, and then tout their great outcomes. I accept a small number of students on a first come first served basis without pre-selecting “ivy-profile” candidates, and am 100% committed to giving each applicant equal attention and care. My results speak for themselves!

I get to know my students really well before we start working on the essays, so I can truly understand the experiences and character traits that make the student unique. I then work with the student to create a cohesive application narrative, taking into account the student’s grades, test scores, coursework, extracurricular activities, persona, background, and interests.

I understand that each student is different, and I work with them accordingly. Students manage their deadlines and times; I am available any time they need to consult with me. I meet with students on Zoom, and read and edit their work on google docs. There’s no limit on the number of calls or the number of drafts I read—we work till we are both satisfied that we have the strongest possible essay. Most of my students applying to highly selective universities will write at least 6 drafts for their common app main essay. The work is a lot and it’s real!

No group workshops. No video modules. I work one-on-one with a limited number of students, and each student gets individual attention from me. I strive to provide a nurturing, supportive atmosphere while pushing students to go deeper with their writing, and work to create strong bonds so students trust me enough to reveal their authentic selves. Every student writes unique essays that no-one else could have written.

I edit all drafts first-hand, and do not outsource any of my work to assistants or interns. Every minute is spent with me personally.

I do not advertise my services anywhere, and I’m not on Yelp or any other platform. Every one of my clients comes to me via referrals by satisfied students and parents. You can see my testimonials page and my LinkedIn profile for detailed client feedback about my process and results. Many counselors have stock photos, fake names, and fake testimonials on their websites. Please do your due diligence before you sign up with any counselor!

I work for free with FGLI (first generation, low income) students. I use federal income guidelines to determine income cutoffs.

Please note that I do not offer general admission counseling services. I only work on the essay component of the application.

RATES AND SERVICES

I work by the hour or by the number of applications. The student chooses the service that works best for them.

As of April 2024, I am not accepting any further students for CS majors. My roster is currently full for CS and CS-allied fields, as I like to have some variety in the supplements I’m editing!

Package 1: Upto 6 complete applications

This package covers unlimited hours for consultation and draft edits for all essays for up to 6 applications (can be more than 6 institutions). The package includes all essays (main + supplements) for applications through the Common App portal, the University of California application, and other single portal apps such as MIT, Georgetown etc. Once the 6 schools are done, the student will have a rich bank of essays and ideas that can be repurposed easily for their other applications.
(This package works out to approx. 50 hours of work from my side. Please sign up early if interested as I have limited availability for this package. This package will automatically end if the student is accepted to their ED institution. The number of applications completed will consequently vary from student to student depending on ED and EA outcomes.)

Package 2: Common App main essay + supplements for any 1 university

This package covers unlimited hours for consultation and edits for the Common App Main Essay as well as supplements for any one university. Students will finish the main essay, understand how to approach the supplemental questions, and complete the supplementals for one institution. Many students choose this package for their ED application, and top this package up with a la carte hours for additional essays if they feel they will not need the 6-institution package.

(Approx. 25 hours of work from my side, depending on the number of supplements.)

Package 3: University of California’s 4 essays (PIQ responses)

This package covers unlimited hours for consultation and edits for the 4 UC essays. (Approx. 18 hours of work from my side.)

Package 4: Common App main essay, supplements for 1 uni + 4 UC essays

This package covers unlimited hours for consultation and edits for the Common App Main Essay as well as supplements for any one university, and unlimited hours for UC consultation.
(Approx. 40 hours of work from my side.)

For the unlimited packages, we stop when the student and I both LOVE the essays and believe they cannot be improved by a single word.

Hour-Based coaching services

I offer hour-based consults depending on the student’s budget, needs, and stage of the process. Students sign up for a minimum block of 5 hours. Additional hours can be taken a la carte if required.

Please choose the package that is right for you. Not every student wants or needs the same level of coaching. Whatever service package you choose, the student gets the same level of attention and care from me to bring out their unique story.
